Happy Christmas at CRRCD!!!

Hallo everyone!!!
Today, in CRRCD, we tried to bring our smiles and our happiness to children with some simple presents and our Christmas costumes!

The children were very happy to see us and they spent a good time with us!!!
We played with them while Santa Claus took little children in her arms. Then one of them said poetry and all together sang some songs..

It was great to see their joy and their thanks.
The children looked at us with much surprise and curiosity; they took the balloons that we prepared for them and some of our hats!!!

Some minutes before to go away from CRRCD we made some pictures together and said goodbye to children. It was a little difficult because they were very happy and they would have wanted to continue playing with us!

We hope we have given them, with our activities, so much joy!!!

Spot - Children Sport and Disabilities

Hello everyone!

We want to share with you this beautiful spot of the Paralimpic Foundation of Canada.

For a “grown-up” communicate a message - especially when dealing with difficult issues - is not always so spontaneous as it seems. For children instead is very spontaneous and simple! We have a lot of things to learn from them:
this is our goal,Temerarii.

Spot - Children Sport and Disabilities:

This is sport.

First activities of November

Hello! It’s been a long time since we don’t write. We are now in the second term of the project and new people have arrived to work in Temerarii. Today, we started the term visiting the centre Creative where some old people live, quite challenging. Some days ago, we prepared some simple activities that were focused in know each other better, especially our names. At the beginning, we thought that they were going to be shy because we were new in this center, but we were wrong. They participated actively in all the activities we proposed and we had fun together!

Among the activities, we carried out some funny games that were easy for them to do. As you can see in the picture, they started writing their names in some papers; they took the label with the name and, with a ball, they threw it to another person telling his or her name. Later, we took out the papers to see if all of us remembered the name of the players without read it.

Some minutes before finish in Creative, we rehearsed some Christmas songs in Romanian and English. It was quite difficult to sing in Romanian because we still don’t understand the language and it was the first time that we listened these songs but it was really interesting and soon we were doing the best of us.

Despite the difference of culture, language and age, we had a really good time with them. With time, or relationship will improve together with our understanding.

My EVS experience

My name is Davinia. I’m 23 years and I come from Spain. I’m volunteer in Arad since almost 5 months and I can say that come here is one of the best decisions that I ever took in my life.

At the beginning It was a little bit hard; new people, new country, different culture and problems with the English. Actually, if I have to be honest, until I come here, I didn’t be sure about what was my paper here, what I had to do. A long the first month, I met my peers in the project, I got use to life in my flat and I started to know the place where we work.

With all this new information in my head, I become to understand why we are here. However, the first problem for us was how we could help this people, adults and children, with different kinds of disabilities, different ages. At the beginning all of this was a mess for us, but little by little we started to work preparing different kind of activities. Some people can be scared about how they can comunicated with this people without understand the languages, but if you try, nothing is imposible. They are really good, and they are so thankful for our presence there. About our activities, for example, we made a plane with recycle bottles, a picture with bottles caps, we danced with them and also we prepared a theater where the main character was in a wheelchair, to try promote that, even if you are in a wheelchair or you have some disabilitie, you’re able to make a lot of things.

For the other hand, with children is a little bit different. They can not make activities, they can not play all together. We had to work with them in a individually way, take care of them and trying that they have fun. Maybe working in this way is a little hard, but also like this you can know better the children and connect with them. Really a love them, but I have to admit that one of them steal my heart!

This is only a little resum about all things that I have made in my job, but is not only this. Be volunteer is not only help the others, this experience help you to know yourself. Moreover, is a good opportunity to know more about the world and different cultures, like in the intercultural events, where you can taste food from different countries and also know more about. Furthemore, in my personal experience, I could also learn typical romanian dances. This is one of the better thing to made a volunteer in Arad, we are a lot of volunteers, and we have a lot of activities, so if you want, you can join with the others and you can participate in more activities, no just in your project.

Another important thing that I have learnt a long my stay here in Arad is the English, so for the people who want improve their  English is a good way to do it, because you have to comunicate with people from different countries and English is the official language. Nonetheless is not the just language that you can lear, for example,  now I’m able to understand the Italian and I know a lot of words! It’s amazing all the things that I could do in just 5 months, like travel. Traveling is other thing that I made, and It was wonderful. I visited different countries a long my days here but also Romania.

I made a trip a long Romania to know better this country. A lot of people before to came here asked me: “Why Romania?, They don’t have nothing, just gypsis. Don’t go there, is so poor”. I had to listen a lot of things like this but now that I’m here I’m not regret. Romania like a country is amazing, the people is really frienly and they always try to help you. It is a normal country like other, have markets, have all the things that you need, and It’s true, is poor, but I didn’t need luxury things here to be really happy. Moreover, Romania is a country where you can do something that for example in my country is impossible, hitch-hiking! I traveled 10 days around Romania like this, and I met really good people, people who only wanted company, only speak with you and help you.

Consequently, now I’m really happy about took the decision to come here, and this experience change me and teach me that un order to know a country you have to be there, because a lot of people in Spain can speak about Romania, and usually is in a bad way, but just some lucky people like the volunteers here, we can say that we know Romanian and is beautiful.

I only can say positive things a long my experience here, so if you don’t know what to do with your life because you finish your study, or because you want life abroad to know more about the world, you want help people, travel…don’t think more and do it! I were afraid before to come here, for my English, for the country, but all was perfect finally. Therefore, don’t be scared because with an experience like this you only can take good things.

Last 10 days

Unfortunately I am at the end of my beautiful experience. I have arrived in Arad five months ago but seem that it was one week ago. Yes, in the EVS the time run and sometimes too much!

When I have applied for the voluntary work I was just graduate. After that I felt the need to go out of my usual and safety life, to know new reality, languages, person and culture, to feel helpful for the society.

When my organization has given me the positive answer for come here I was really excited, I thought “finally I leave”! They send me more information about the project. I liked it! When you have only information on paper and you are not in place for sure your mind start to daydream. For me it was the same. I began to think about the place, my life, the work, etc…. The only my real worry was the English. I was scare to can not communicate with the other people, than little by little I have started to speak and understand.

I have arrived in Arad and after two days my prejudice about this beautiful country went away. One problem that you have to take on when you go in an other country is the prejudice built by your mind, and about Romania in west Europe unfortunately we have too much of them! The best way for fight them is travel and open yourself to the local person.

Concern the work at the beginning my impression was a little negative, because the impact with the center was strong, but little by little working with the guys you start to love them. They give you a lot of love and satisfactions, for example when they say you “thank you the work of today was amazing” with a big smile and clapping.

EVS is not only work but it is also a opportunity to know other culture, this is possible spoke with volunteers that come from every part of the world. Besides during this experience you can use free days, spending them for travel and know better yourself and think about your future.

My advice is not lose this wonderful and unique experience for grow and know something more, join us!!

Halfway

The last week, we worked in Creative center.
I like this center because we have a lot of material for working and the people enjoy with our activities. For example, the last day we made a dragon with colour paper and they are excited and happy with the activity and this is very rewarding because I feel that I am useful.

Another activity was to help painting two classes in a school and was funny but hard because the paint is not cleaned alone hahaha

For other part, this week, for example, we are working in another center with little children and really I love this activity because I don’t need to know idioms for communicate whit them… is totally intuitive and funny and they love us.

These two months and half have passed very quickly because I like my job and my life in Arad because teachers, children, mates, volunteers are very nice with me.

My onarrival training and weekly reports

Between 22-28 May I participated in a course in Bucharest. We were in a luxury hotel and I was enjoying the beautiful apartment on the top floor. Training was addressed to volunteers about 30 persons from diverse countries across Europe, but also overseas countries such as Cape Verde, the Canary Islands and Reunion.

Through the traveling by train from Arad to Bucharest, I had good opportunity to met with other volunteers from other organizations based in Arad and also enjoyed beautiful landscape across Romania. Local rail traffic is not too good. The journey was about 12 hours, but I enjoyed it-views of the nature is amazing, like documentary film. Some tasks at onarrival course were pikants - for example: to finding 10 persons born in Bucharest and asking them what they like or dislike in life in the city, what is the sense of national humor, or what is insult to make funny of.. End of course wasnot easy for ew

eryone. We would like to stay there more time:).

Back in Arad-the most activity we were doing now in Tacovici center. People tere are very proactives. This week we planted together several summer plants to beautify the garden. The creative center continues with the teaching of English-and at the same time we learn Romanian language. Last time we learned part of the body. In addition, we try in both centers stimulate skills resident of painting and drawing. I like spend my free time discovering new places in town. Some places are strange-especially the periphery of cities, ruins, prisons..but it is also esence of local live.

First month working

This week we started to work in a new center, Ghiocelul with children with disabilities. This center is really good for the children and there are people prepared to care and help this children. This is really good for us too, because we can learn how we have to be with the children to help them, but our principal job here is play with them and recive their love, they are amazing. Moreover, in this center we helped to keep a good garden, we are prepared for all!!!

On the other hand, we continued go to the others centers like Tabacovici, where made animals with the flowers and the tree leaves, it’s a good way to see their imagination.

We are glad to can help this people and we are lucky to have a project like this one. In the beginning we swere scared because we didn’t know if we are prepared for this, we didn’t know the language… but now we have realised that we can do many activities in the Creative center and Tabacovici as well. This is a wonderful experience because with a new day we know new things.

For the next month we have to think about a lot of activities because this people are full of energy!! If you want know more about our experience in this EVS follow us on facebook, twitter or instagram.

Our first activities

The week started with the European day. With this event we had the possibility to share the EVS, fortunately, in fact during the morning we made sure that the young people, between 16 and 30, haven’t heard about it. Now we hope that someone will seize this fantastic opportunity. Add to this, the European day was amazing! We tested a lot of traditional food and saw traditional dances, for being able to know better the different cultures in our Europe.

In this week we also started to work. When the last month we visited the centers, we weren’t very happy because we have feared to not be ready for this experience. When the last Tuesday we finished to work, we were very satisfied. We passed the initial shock! This was a good lesson, never trust of first impression!
The best satisfaction arrived the second day of work in Tabaccovic and Creative centers. There we had the possibility to work with older people, so we had the chance to do more focused activities. Both of the guys and the social workers were really happy for our presence.

We are waiting with a lot of enthusiasm the new week!
If you are curious to know our week as well,  follow us on facebook, twitter and instagram.

The first month of EVS in Arad

The main task of this first month of EVS was to defeat and get through the cultural shock. Living in a new and different country is always a challenge but, the cultural shock is not only about the country or the language (English or Romanian in our case), is also about living with people from other countries, with other habits, almost in the whole aspects of our lives. After one month I think that the best way to defeat the differences is thinking about our similarities, because, for sure we are coming from different countries and from different social and cultural backgrounds, but, at least, we are here together, basically in the same situation of fear and disorientation, but we are young and bold as well.

After one month is easy to see the improvements, in a lot of aspects, language or behaviour for example. It is easy, at the ending of the day to perceive another brick of your general knowledge, and nothing is better than this, nothing is better than improving yourself.

I saw the biggest improvements for me during the week of On-arrival. The aim of the On-arrival training is to sponsor the Erasmus plus and the country Romania, but it was so useful for linking volunteers from different cities as well. During the On-arrival we discovered a lot of things about the Country and the habits, and about our rights and duties during the EVS. We learned the right approach for our working and a lot of activities. For me the On-arrival was the first step for defeating the cultural shock, and for me It was a success.

After one month it could be really easy, not easy at all but easy. You could find the right people for you, the right situations and, last but not the least, the right state of mind for living the EVS at the best of your possibilities.
